Ms. Evita Sanabria has been working for the New York City Department of Education for past 29 years where she began her career as a paraprofessional.
She received her Professional Diploma in Administration and Supervision from Queens College and her Master’s Degree from New York University in Guidance and Counseling. In 2015 she completed the Cahn Fellow Program for Distinguished Principals from Teachers College, Columbia University.
She has been the Principal of P.S. /I.S. 127 since August 2008. The school’s philosophy is:
At P.S. /I.S. 127 we strive to inspire students to pursue dreams. With a diverse and rigorous curriculum, we aspire to meet the needs of the individual student. Our goal is to promote the love of learning and good citizenship in a safe and collaborative environment. We involve parents, educators and members of the community to aid in the education of our students. During the past nine years Ms. Sanabria has implemented the following programs
• Enrichment program in grades fourth through eighth grade ICT classes
• Spanish Dual Language Program K-8
• Arts Performance through various grants including Disney Musical
• Visual Arts
March 2014, she was awarded by the Latin American Intercultural Alliance “Women in Education” award for the development and progress of the community through education.
December 2011, she was the recipient the Harry T Steward Award in recognition of outstanding service and commitment to the improvement of the community through education by the NAACP of East Elmhurst.
May 2017 Partnership Award from St. John’s University for the 10 years of partnering with the university to hire ESL/CB license teachers and Project Hope Math Program for students.
Ms. Sanabria’ s passion for education comes from her parents who brought her and her siblings to New York City from Ecuador for the opportunity to experience a quality education that will open doors for her and sibling. In return, she will continue opening the doors for others.
